It is with great sadness that the family of Virginia Bell (née McSpadden) announces her passing
on February 22, 2023, at the age of 97. Virginia Bell was born in Desha, Arkansas, on October
12, 1925. She died on February 22, 2023, in Birmingham, AL. She was married to James Presley
(JP) Bell, also from Desha, for over 65 years. During World War II, Virginia contributed to the
war effort by working for the FBI in Washington, DC as a fingerprint analyst. She was an avid
homemaker but also enjoyed traveling, playing golf, reading, and entertaining friends and family.
Virginia lost her loving husband on December 28, 2010. During their 65 years of marriage, JP
worked for Chevron Oil Company, which allowed them to live in multiple states including Utah,
Mississippi, Kentucky, and New Jersey. Furthermore, Virginia and JP also lived in Belgium,
Italy, and finally, a last assignment in Salt Lake City before settling down in Jackson where they
built a home in South Park Loop.
Virginia was preceded in death by not only her husband but her parents Bessie and Lando
McSpadden and brothers Thurl and Noel. Virginia will be lovingly remembered by her sons
Phillip Darwin (Sandra) Bell of Birmingham, Alabama, and James Rory (Lorna) Bell of
Everette, Washington. Additionally, she leaves behind her grandchild, Amanda Bell (Stephen)
Morgan and three great-grandchildren, Preston, Avery, and Adeline Morgan. During their 30+
years in Jackson, Virginia and JP were active members of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and
extensively involved in the Jackson Community.
