Sara Henderson

April 20, 1954 — May 22, 2016

Sara Udall Henderson, age 62, passed away peacefully at her home in Wilson, Wyoming on May 22, 2016, after a long illness.

Born April 20, 1954 in Merced, California, Sara was the middle of 5 children of Addison and Ada (Webster) Udall. After graduating from Merced High School in 1972, Sara attended Brigham Young University, earning degrees in Nursing and University Studies.

At various times in her life, Sara worked as an RN in Texas, Utah and Wyoming but always said that her greatest joy in life was being a mother and homemaker.

Sara wed Noel C. Sullivan in 1975 and became the mother of two sons. Noel died of cancer in 1990. Four years later, she met and married Robert. E. Henderson, who was the Associate Conductor of the Utah Symphony at that time.

Sara and Robert moved to Jackson Hole in 1998, where they have enjoyed working and playing in the Tetons. They were avid hikers, skiers, climbers and backpackers. Some of their most memorable trips were through-hikes in the Tetons, the Wind Rivers and the canyons of southern Utah. Sara summited a number of peaks in the Tetons, Sierra and Cascades Ranges including the Grand Teton, Mt. Whitney, Mt Baker, Mt Olympus and Cathedral Peak.

In 1999, Sara began working as a nurse at St. John’s Living Center and felt her greatest honor was to help care for many longtime valley residents. From 2003, she served in the Outpatient Services Department at St. John’s Medical Center. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was an active volunteer in the Jackson 2nd Ward, where most of her service was centered in the children’s Primary organization.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Noel Udall. She is survived by her husband Robert; two married sons, Mason N. Sullivan (Sasha Kinens) and Andrew J. Sullivan (Kirsen Brady); her sister Lee Bennion; two brothers, Marc and Mathew Udall; and a grandson, Sven Sullivan.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 6:00 P.M. at the LDS Church, 410 E. Broadway, Jackson, WY. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m. Due to the number of relatives living in Utah, a second memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oak Hills 9th Ward, 1960 North 1500 East, Provo, UT. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to charities that benefit children and families in need, such as Smile Train, Doctors Without Borders or the LDS Humanitarian Relief Fund.
