Robert Wilbur Hanlon, of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, died July 10, at St. John’s Hospital, of cancer. He was 89.

He was born June 19, 1927, in a taxicab on the Massachusetts-Connecticut border. He graduated from Arlington High School and Wentworth Institute, both in Massachusetts.

In 1950 he married Mary Edith Gary of Wellesley; the couple settled in Wayland, Massachusetts. For decades Mr. and Mrs. Hanlon were active members of Wayland Trinitarian Congregational Church.

Mr. Hanlon was president of the Henry E. Wile Corporation, a construction company specializing in architectural concrete work. The company built hospitals, churches, dormitories and other public buildings, including the Joslin Diabetes Clinic and the Babson College Library.

In retirement, the Hanlons made their home in Jackson and in Oro Valley, Arizona. In Jackson, the couple worshiped at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years in 2013, and is survived by five children: Elizabeth Hanlon, Robert Hanlon, John Hanlon, Peter Hanlon and Jane Brennan; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
