Rhoda Weller Mathiesen Rhoda Weller Mathiesen, 96, died May 6, 2009, at St. John's Living Center in Jackson WY. Rhoda was born September 17, 1912, in Rawlins, WY. She was the middle child of George B. Weller and Florence Daley Weller. She grew up and attended school in Rawlins, graduating from Rawlins High in 1931. She attended school in California learning to be a librarian and worked in the Carbon County Library. On October 7, 1936, she married John Gordon Mathiesen. For a short period the couple lived in Evanston, WY, before returning to Rawlins to live and raise a family. Rhoda was a homemaker and mother. Rhoda was devoted to the community of Rawlins and to Carbon County. Thru the years, she volunteered her time and energy with Campfire Girls, PTA, Carbon County Throat Culture Board, Carbon County Substance Abuse Task Force, Carbon County Historical Society and United Way. In several of these organizations she worked at both local and state levels. Rhoda earned many awards for her service, including Volunteer of the Year for 1991. Rhoda's interests included reading, sewing, handicraft, indoor plants, but mostly working with and for young people. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother and younger sister and her daughter, Donna Mathiesen Guilford. Survivors include her son, Jan Mathiesen of Jackson, WY., grandson John Guilford of Glasford, Il., and granddaughter, Michelle Guildford of Spokane, WA. No funeral service is planned. The family will visit with friends Sunday, June 14, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rawlins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Heifer International, a foundation Rhoda liked for their service to humanity.
