Marcella Yocum

February 17, 1926 — July 23, 2014

Our mother, Marcella Yocum, was born February 17, 1926 to Raymond and Evelyn Neise. She was the second daughter of the young 16 year old mother, with two brothers to come soon after. Marcie was raised in Maplewood, Missouri, where her father started, in his basement , a gutter business which grew to a major heating and cooling operation in St. Louis. She attended Brenau Women's College Preparatory School in Gainesville GA. She went on to attend the University of Missouri.

Marcie became a hostess for TWA in the mid 40s for four years and was working out of Kansas City Missouri. She kept a flight log and traveled to many US cities on the DC9, DC10 and the Constellation, and always had a "real swell" date waiting in each city! It was here in Kansas City where she met her lifetime love, Leonard Yocum, and she gave up her jet set life to have a family. They married in September of 1951, and moved back to St. Louis with 2 daughters, Laura and Sally, in 1959. Their son, David, was born that year. She lived in the suburbs of St. Louis County for almost 50 years, where she was the best and most dedicated wife, cook, homemaker and chauffeur for her family. She was an avid golfer, tennis player, had a weekly bridge group and neighborhood gin rummy parties. When the kids left the roost, she kept herself busy working at a custom frame shop, helping her clients design and compose mats and frame styles for their pictures.

Marcie moved to Jackson Wyoming in 2005 to be with family and lived at River Rock Lodge for almost 8 years. She was dubbed the mayor of River Rock by a friend. She was involved in the resident decisions and menus, and became fast friends with some of the staff, as well as the residents at her dining table. She was always seen during the beautiful Teton summer days on the back patio reading a good book in her cushy chaise lounge.

Marcie moved to the St John's Living Center in July of last year. She was fairly active in the events there.

Marcie never lost her love of travel, and travelled with her family numerous times a year. She frequented Los Angeles, St. Louis and the Bahamas. Marcie was ready to do anything and only a few years ago, went down the "not so lazy river " at the Atlantis resort. She was always the first one to a party, dancing with everyone until they turned out the lights. She had a fantastic fashion sense, and probably had the largest closet collection in the St John's Living Center! She is the proud grandmother of 5 beautiful girls, and they lovingly call her CeeCee.

Marcie passed away peacefully in her room with family and friends on July 23, 2014. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her mother and father, sister and brother. She is survived by her brother, her children and grandchildren and many many friends. A celebration of her life will be at River Rock Lodge on August 8th at 5:00. Music and food and lots of talking about Marcie-and of course, BLING is required.

In lieu of flowers, we are setting up an account in Marcie's name benefitting Teton Adaptive Sports and the Living Center. Donations can be mailed to Marcie Yocum PO Box 514 Wilson Wyoming 83014
