Kathy Lyn Shidner (Pyer) passed away December 23, 2024 at the age of 73, at the Sage Living Center in Jackson Wyoming. Kathy was born in Sioux City, Iowa on September 8, 1951, to Pete and Laverne Pyer.
Kathy grew up in Escondido, CA and met the love of her life, Mike Shidner, in 1975. The two were married in 1979 and moved with their two sons to Jackson Hole in 1989 where she co-owned and operated the Hoback River Resort with her husband until retirement in 2012. Kathy spent years in Girl Scouts as a child and passed her love of scouting along to her sons. As a Cub Scout leader in Jackson, she helped foster both sons’ path to Eagle Scouts. She enjoyed helping build her two homes in the Hoback area where she lived for many years. Kathy had fun making hook rugs from old sheets, cooking and baking for her family, rafting and kayaking on the Snake River, and hiking around Jackson with her friends. She appreciated traveling to various places of the world such as Europe, Canada, South Africa, and the Canary Islands. She had a bold sense of adventure, enjoying skydiving and canyoneering in New Zealand, scuba diving in Australia, enjoying the beaches and ocean at her brother's, Jim Pyer, cabin in Baja Mexico, snorkeling in the Tahitian and Hawaiian Islands, and glacier hikes in Alaska to name a few. Regardless of location, she was always excited to join others in activities such as water skiing on a lake, cliff jumping on the river with her son, or snowmobiling to Granite hot springs with her grandchildren. She enjoyed music and loved going to the local musicshows in Jackson, particularly enjoying the New Orleans Jazz Festival where she enjoyed the food and variety of music. She was loved by all who knew her and loved all those around her. She always had an open-door policy and would invite all into her home. She made everyone feel comfortable and happy with her infectious laugh. She enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes and would convince anyone who showed up to a game of either with her. Later in life she spent as much time with her grandchildren as possible. Her greatest treasures in life were the memories she made with family and friends. Unfortunately, Alzheimer's took her too soon.
She is survived by her husband Mike Shidner; son Nick, daughter-in-law Beth, grandchildren Hazel and Adam; son Jeremy, daughter-in-law Christina, grandchildren Calista and Mia; brothers Jim Pyer and Dave Pyer. She joins her parents and late sister Tammi Kenny (Pyer), who sadly passed at the age of 54, and was loved immensely by Kathy.A memorial service is planned for the Fall of 2025 in California where her ashes will be placed alongside her family at Oakhill Cemetery in Escondido. She is loved dearly by her family and countless friends. A celebration of life will be held in the early summer of 25' here in Jackson.
