Dian Bess

April 29, 1930 — February 13, 2014

Dian Bess a long-time resident of Jackson, Wyoming, passed away peacefully in her home on February 13th, 2014, after battling pancreatic cancer for the past 9 months. She was 83 years of age.

She was the youngest of 5 children born to the late Emil and Irene Harding. Dian was the beloved wife of Dick (Thomas) Bess for over 62 years. She will forever be remembered by her 2 children, son Dan Bess and daughter Deborah Gabriel, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her.

Dian was born and raised in Southern California, where she went to Santa Monica High School. She was a member of the drill team and very active in athletics.

Dian met Dick Bess while she was in high school. During the time they were dating Dick joined the Air Force to take up the fight during the Korean War. While stationed in Louisiana, Dick asked Dian to marry him. She joined him in Louisiana and they were married on May 7th, 1951. They stayed in Louisiana throughout Dick's enlistment in the Air Force and eventually moved back to Santa Monica where they started a family.

The family moved to Jackson in 1963 where they purchased and operated a family guest ranch called The Spotted Horse Ranch. Dian loved to take her dogs for a walk in the mountains behind the ranch and she was involved in many activities such as the woman's bowling league at the local Elks Club. Dian also loved golf and gardening. Many wonderful and long term friendships were created throughout the years while living on the guest ranch. Dick and Dian also owned several other businesses in Jackson. They decided to sell the ranch and retire in the fall of 1999.

Dian touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity. She maintained her dignity and trademark sense of humour all the way to the end.
