Funeral services for Darrel Jay Weeks, age 45, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Jackson L.D.S. Church, 410 E. Broadway. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7 - 8:30 P.M. at Valley Mortuary in Jackson and then for an hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in the Elliott Cemetery in Jackson. Darrel passed away of a heart attack at his home Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 2009. Darrel was born February 29, 1964 in the Idaho Falls Hospital to Ray H. and Coreen Moulton Weeks of Jackson, Wyoming. Darrel was the second of three children. Darrel lived in Jackson all of his life. On March 15, 1986 he married his sweetheart, Lisa Colleen Murphy and to his union two bundles of joy were born. Ryan Jay Weeks and Brandon Donald Weeks were both born in the St. John's Hospital in Jackson. He and Lisa bought the Big A Auto Parts store, where he had worked, from his parents Ray and Coreen and ran it until Darrel developed a brain aneurysm. Beating outstanding odds Darrel survived the surgery and made an amazing recovery. Darrel and Lisa decided to sell the business and spend some time relaxing. Throughout his years in Business, he enjoyed donating to many organizations and clubs in the community he grew up in. Darrel was very good at and loved to play baseball with his brother and buddies on the Babe Ruth Team. Darrel, Lisa, Ryan and Brandon loved to go camping and fishing. One of their favorite places was Slide Lake. They had many fun camping trips with Marlon and his family and spent many enjoyable evenings playing cards with Marlon and Connie. They also loved to fly remote control airplanes and had taken up golf. Darrel proved to be a natural at it and had a ferocious swing. Darrel was a longtime Denver Broncos fan even though they had a tendency to frustrate him at times. His all-time favorite hobby was NASCAR. He loved watching the races on TV. He particularly like Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. Darrel, Lisa and the boys were fortunate enough to attend races in Charlotte and Las Vegas. Darrel treasured those vacations as two of his favorites out of the many they had taken. He is survived by his wife Lisa and two sons, Ryan Jay Weeks and Brandon Donald Weeks; his mother Coreen Weeks of Jackson; his grandmother Theda Peterson of Jackson; 2 brothers: Jim(Susan) Weeks of Afton, Wyoming and Marlon (Connie) Weeks of Victor, Idaho; 3 sisters: Lois Ann Van Dyken of Nehalem, Oregon; Edna Strom of Portland, Oregon; Michelle (Justin) Smith of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and numerous nephews and nieces.
He has joined in Heaven, his father, Ray, a brother, Michael Weeks and 2 brothers-in-law, Dave Van Dyken and Randy Strom as well as other family members. What a happy, peaceful reunion that had to be.
