Barbara J. Shervin’s valiant heart stopped beating on Sunday, September 16, 2018. Her family gathered around her sharing love, memories and stories to the end. Barbara was born in Newcastle, Wyoming on June 3, 1935 to Elza (E.A.) and Laura Decker, the fourth of five children. The family soon moved to a homestead in Big Piney, Wyoming where Barbara spent her childhood in a pioneer home. Barbara said she met her destiny pumping gas just before she graduated from Big Piney High School when she washed the windshield of a ranch hand, Robert Lee Shervin. Bob and Barbara married on February 14, 1953 and she pumped gas, sold tires and did bookkeeping until her retirement in 1999. She drew the line at tire repairs. Barbara was a talented artist in both tole painting and oil. She loved the color pink and humming birds, puzzles and any card game, especially Mahjong. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and she was so good at online Scrabble that she had to continually find new names to play. She always had a spring in her step and a whistle on her lips. She loved her family beyond everything and cheered them on at every wrestling match and event. Bob and Barbara had five children: Robert V. (Julie), Darrell (Kathy), Harold (Mary Shervin Smith), Scott (Letty) and Kristy, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her son Harold in 1987 and later her family grew to include Eddie Smith. In 2005 her grandson Cody also pre-deceased her, and her brother Elza. She is survived by her husband of 65 years; her sister, Rita; her brothers Roger and Jerome; her children, and her grandchildren: Levi, Haley, Danny, A.J., Jay, Mitchel, Katie, Courtney and Mandy; and nieces and nephews that she loved as her own and countless friends. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at the Senior Center on September 22. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Senior Center of Jackson Hole.
