Addison Carwile

February 20, 2004 — July 28, 2023

Greensboro, NC

Our sweet, adventurous nineteen-year old daughter passed away unexpectedly in her sleep due to undiagnosed pneumonia on Friday, July 28th.  She was living and working in Yellowstone National Park for the summer at the time of her passing. She was taken from this world far too soon and her loss has left a hole in our hearts.  She was having a great summer working in the park and we are thankful she was in a beautiful place at the time that she passed.

Addie was born on February 20, 2004 to Eric and Lisa Carwile in Greensboro, NC. She attended Childhood Enrichment Center preschool, and then Morehead Elementary, Kiser Middle and Grimsley High School. She graduated with honors from Grimsley and started the next chapter at UNCW. She excelled her college freshman year with Dean’s list in the fall, and spread her wings participating in the Quidditch Club.  She was loving the beachlife and made some amazing friends from around North Carolina and Maryland.

Growing up, Addie stayed busy playing dolls with her older sister, making up games with her friends, and riding her scooter.  She also enjoyed a variety of sports including softball, basketball, volleyball and she ran cross country all four years in high school even being Captain her senior year!  Addie had a lot of involvement with her schools and community from being the Lion in the Wizard of Oz at Morehead Elementary to earning her Silver Award in Girl Scouts to youth mission trips with her church to marching band in high school.

Her witty, sweet, and beautiful personality will be missed by many. Her smile was welcoming and she aimed to be inclusive.  She was close to all of her family and loved having game nights. Addie had packed a lot of living in her 19 years.  She had visited 46 states, several foreign countries, and a multitude of national parks like Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, Denali, Everglades, and Acadia. She’s been skydiving and whale watching and also loved to zipline. She woke many a friend early in the morning to watch the sunrise and attended Taylor Swift concerts three times during her life.

Addie was predeceased by her great grandma and birthday buddy, Vada Coleman Berting, who passed away in 2016, her great grandfather, Larry Carwile in 2006, and her Grandma Olive Mae Berting who passed away this past November.

She is survived by her parents, Eric and Lisa Carwile and her older sister, Katie Amelia Carwile, along with Addie’s favorite family member, Scout, the only four legged member. Also survived by her maternal grandparents, Tom and Evon Berting of Swansboro, NC, and her paternal grandparents, Ed and Anita Carwile of Covington, GA. She leaves behind  her Aunts Laura Berting (and her partner, Ron Darnell), of Archdale, NC, Ashley Jones (and her husband, Justin) of Rocky Point, NC, and Allison Webb (and her husband, Kenny) of Keller, Texas. Also surviving are her cousins Brandie Perry (and Matthew and their son Beckett) of Thomasville, NC, Kayla and Lexi Webb of Keller Texas, and Ellie Jones of Rocky Point.

Besides her family, she is leaving behind the best kind of friends you could have in your life. She loved you all - Taylor C, Bridget K, Bridget P, Susannah, Rujul, Sydney B. and Ella. She also cherished all of her playgroup peeps as well as her school and church friends. Her sister Katie and Addie were close in their love of our dog Scout, playing Wii games, being Swifties, and travel adventures.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Friday, August 11 at 3 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greensboro, NC. A reception will follow afterwards in the church fellowship hall.  If desired, please wear Addie’s favorite colors of pink, yellow or blue.

In lieu of flowers, you could make a donation to the SPCA in memory of Addie and her tender heart she had for animals especially dogs (https://www.triadspca.org/donate).  There will be future plans to honor her in some ways.  The family of Addie Carwile wishes to thank their friends and family who have gone beyond the call to lift up Eric, Lisa, and Katie in care, travel, and more during this difficult time.
